Get in the Picture

by | Jan 22, 2023

I don’t think many people can argue the importance of photography, but I want to take it one step further… who is in the photos is also significant!

We are all busy people, whether we are students, stay-at-home parents, working jobs or running to various activities. We also all have insecurities, whether we like to admit it or not. Are we letting either of these prevent us from being photographed?

Getting in front of the camera can be intimidating, but there are a few things to consider. When your children are grown and looking through photos, will they see you in them? Are you leaving behind a physical memory for them to treasure? MOMS… I’m especially talking to you!
Moms are generally the ones taking the photos. Are you remembering to include yourself? You are an important family member as well.

Getting the Shot

The quickest and easiest option for getting in the picture is obviously a selfie, but what if you want a better photo than that or one of you interacting with your children?

Learn how to use your camera’s timer. Most cameras have the option of a 10 second timer. This gives you just enough time to run into a photo. Be sure you have everyone else in place before you start though. In conjunction with the timer, it is helpful to use a tripod or other hard surface in order to set up your shot. This will help you adjust for the right angle or height.

Don’t be afraid to hand your phone or camera to another person. Most people (and even children) are willing to take a few photos.

Book a photo session. One way to ensure a variety of images of you with your family is to book a family session with a photographer.

Remember… getting the image is what is important! Just do it!

One day, your kids will look back at photos of loving memories. They will not care what you were wearing, if you had makeup on or if your hair was done up. They will remember the moments, the lessons learned, the laughter. Don’t be afraid of your personal story. Keep it real. Enjoy the journey. “The only photo you will ever regret is the one you didn’t take.”
